City Living NY (CLNY) is dedicated to helping all youth aging out of the foster care system, typically at age 21, to achieve their personal goals and reach for their dreams. When these youth leave the support system that has been in place for them while they were in care, they often have limited adult supports to turn to. We begin by giving clients urgently needed essential household goods - dishes, pots and pans, bedding, curtains, lamps, bathroom shower curtains and rugs - all those items one needs to make their first apartment into a home. We also provide small furniture such as a kitchen table and chairs or beds and sometimes we find youth who have nothing at all beyond clothing; we help these youth in furnishing their homes through donations and corporate sponsorships. Our work doesn’t stop there. We continue to be there for youth through age 26 as the adult connection that many do not have. We are hands-on coaches who empower our clients to become stable and self-sufficient by making referrals to effective counseling, education, and job training programs. City Living NY is a unique, holistic after-care program, working with our clients to overcome complex and varied challenges in order to have the same opportunities as any young adult on the road to independence. When foster care ends, our work begins.
